I wonder how many folks realized that this weekend was officially the longest weekend of the summer, given that the longest day of the year (6/21) was part of it. In any case, it was one of my busiest weekends since I moved to the city.
The weekend started off with a great dinner on Friday at Mingalaba, a Burmese restaurant, in Burlingame. Whoever knew Burlingame had such a happening downtown? I wanted to eat at every restaurant I saw on its restaurant row, and I'm glad that M picked a great place for a mini-reunion dinner of sorts. Dinner turned out to be memorable for several reasons - most importantly, we could catch up on each other's lives. M and K have much to look forward to in the next few months, and I have my fingers crossed for them! Besides, dinner seemed to be some sort of restaurant sitcom - mixed up orders, extra orders, missing orders...you name it :) I am glad the group has a good sense of humor, and the food was delicious - I'd particularly recommend the Rangoon Fish and House Special Noodles with 'chana besan'. To top it off, we got some delicious mango dessert and an entree on the house. As always, we were almost the last to leave, which was cool in a way, as we heard one of their regular patrons play a traditional Burmese musical instrument, which sounded like a xylophone.
I also attended a house party with M on Saturday...I had never met any of the folks at that party before, but it turned out to be a fun experience. Besides, the hosts had decorated their place so well...I couldn't stop admiring the way they had blended their diverse and ethnic backgrounds, items picked up from travels across the world, and the floor layout, to create an incredible space, almost worthy of being featured on one of the HGTV design shows! From there, we headed out to Cafe Cocomo to catch up with S and her friends, for an evening of salsa dancing. After burning up several calories including feet stamping + getting stamped on, we realized we were famished, and ended up driving out all the way to Marina from Potrero Hill, to eat at Pizza Orgasmica. That place certainly has interesting names for pizzas as well as some innovative pizza combinations. I'm not a pizza person, but I'd go back for a slice of their Garden of Eden! And to finish up an interesting weekend, I spent a couple of hours at Golden Gate park today, enjoying live music by Ingrid Michaelson, The Last Goodnight, and Lifehouse at Radio Alice's SummerThing.
And as I wrap up, I can't help think about how weird life is - sometimes you just want to block out memories, and yet, certain events occur that make you wonder. Seriously, is SF that small a city?
