1. By recycling one ton (2,000 pounds) of paper, we save 17 trees, 6,953 gallons of water, 463 gallons of oil, 4,077 kilowatt hours of energy, and reduce air pollution by 587 pounds and landfill space by 3.06 cubic yards. Print responsibly.
2. The amount of wood and paper thrown away each year is enough to heat 50 million homes for 20 years. Recycle.
Of course, these 'factoids' are debatable e.g. what is the size of the homes reference, what kind of trees are saved, etc. But, as high level observations, they are pretty astounding. Who'd have thought that we collectively waste so much wood & paper?
