F. and I were giving R. and R. a hard time today about the amount of 'bhaav' they give S, and how we never give them such a tough time on anything :) I can't think of a comparable phrase in English for classic Bombay lingo such as 'bhaav khaana'. However, loosely translated, it means that the person in question is just holding out, waiting for folks to say or do things to appease them etc.
While I don't mind going out of my way to help others, I don't expect others to go out of their way to say or do anything for me, and so don't usually 'khaao bhaav' for trivial things. On the contrary, it makes me rather uncomfortable e.g. I'm just not sure how to reciprocate when friends offer help as I experienced over the last couple of weeks during my move.
Yet, over the past few days, I've been learning that it's ok to:
1. Be a tad vulnerable.
2. Accept help from friends.
3. Follow and not lead.
4. Be a girl - change your mind on a whim and 'bhaav khaao' :)
