SF certainly has its share of interesting people...I might even say more than it's fair share :) People are undoubtedly friendly, and apparently, even willing to dispense life wisdom (?) to strangers. So, I ended up chatting the other day with this random lady. She looked like she was in her 50s and apparently, quite interested in Indian mysticism. I can only suppose she imagined some semblance of the mystic Indian in me or something like that, but that's beside the point :P
The conversation started because she liked my ring, and eventually ended up on 'soulmates'. Yeah, that's right...soulmates! I don't even believe in the concept of soulmates. IMO, there has to be a certain connection in the beginning, but beyond that, relationships need time, trust, and commitment from both individuals.
I've heard several stories from friends about how you 'know' when you've met the right person - a jolt of electricity, a feeling of sudden peace, a moment of speechlessness etc. Each person has had a different experience, and so it's not easy to narrow it down to a certain event. And yet, I wonder about how people know they 'know' (!)
Anyways, so besides the usual platitudes that your soulmate has to be your friend first, be there for you, etc, I thought that this lady made a couple of pretty interesting comments - your soulmate will call on the carpet when necessary, challenge status quo, and want to explore life's 'what ifs' with you. Hmmm...
