Interesting concepts...

It's always interesting to learn new things about the world that we live in.

For example, I didn't know that people specialize in rescuing disaster-struck ships...not that these situations were on top of my mind, but I guess I took it for granted that the Coast Guard handled incidents like these. I recently read an article that introduced me to this concept where a specific set of people actually go all over the world and work with the local Coast Guards to rescue ships in surreal conditions. Incredible!

And then, just yesterday, I read about Norway's 'Doomsday' seed locker that will store a gene pool of the world's plants. This is another interesting concept - while the optimist in me is happy to know that there is a way to protect our plants from total extinction, the skeptic in me wonders if the necessary natural conditions for such plants to thrive will exist in the aftermath of a 'doomsday'. Nonetheless, it's comforting to know that there are folks out there who are taking actual steps to implement Disaster Recovery processes in the real world :)
