You learn something new everyday...for example, who knew that R built search functionality for bloglines.com? When I told him that was awesome and I'd blog about it, he got all legal and modest, and insisted that I describe his role as 'part of a small team that built a new search for bloglines.com'..haha!
Though speaking of learning, movies are another great resource. They often make me think about how we perceive the world around us. So, here's a list of movies I've seen recently:
1. Spellbound
2. The Jane Austen Book Club
3. Juno
4. Un Homme et Une Femme (French)
5. Anuranan (Bengali)
6. Atonement
7. Pirates of the Caribbean : At World's End
8. Early Summer (Japanese)
9. The Matchmaker
10. Jab We Met (Hindi)
# 1 was a great movie about psychoanalysis...reminded me about how we often get intrigued or bothered when we can't quite figure people out. I'm working on the intrigue aspect..it's amazing what you learn when you let people surprise you!
Loved # 2 and 5. I think these movies have done such a great job with portraying relationships in a realistic way - something that you can believe could happen to you or your friends. # 3 and 8 were great movies too...dealt with emotional complexity well.
# 4 and 9 were rather predictable...not too bad if you are bored. Unfortunately, # 6 and 7 disappointed me. I suppose I had too many expectations from 'Atonement' while 'Pirates' had me agreeing with popular belief that most sequels fail to recreate the magic of the first movie. Classic examples are Matrix and Mission Impossible, though the Bourne series thankfully is an exception!
I must admit, I actually liked #10 - though it's a typical desi movie with plenty of song and dance (you definitely need a FF button for this one), I thought it hit the nail on the head on how two seemingly opposite people can positively influence each other and grow, something that I think is critical for a successful relationship.
