Back to the blog!

Wow! I can't believe I haven't blogged in nearly a year....time sure flies by so quickly. Funny enough, S reminded me about my blog the other day, and I finally got around to checking it out tonight. Hopefully, this year will be a better year for this blog. It's already promising to be quite a handful with life, family, friends, work, and of course, the more public topics like Avatar, 3 Idiots, Haiti, iPad...seriously, so many events have already occured in the past month that I'm quite convinced 2010 will be a year to remember.

And yet, for all the churn, I find it quite interesting that some things in life don't seem to change...like me running into talkative cab drivers! So, my recent 'interesting' cab conversation was with a political activist / cab driver. He immigrated with his family as a young teenager several years ago, and apparently got into trouble after sending a bunch of political emails that were not favorably looked upon by his native country. For all those things that I know I take for granted, I realized then that I don't think much about democracy. Having grown up in the world's largest democracy and now living in what may be perhaps one of the most vocal ones, I could at best, empathize with this person's situation. But, ever since, I've wondered what life must be like for folks who are in similar situations as this particular person. I wish them the best - the ability to endure what they cannot change, and strength to those who try to bring about positive change!

Talking about positive change, I highly recommend the book "Don't sweat the Small Stuff" by Richard Carlson. It's a quick read, and more importantly, practical. The author reminds you about things you probably already know, and provides easy ways to apply them to your daily life. I've been following some of the suggestions and must say, they are helping me stay on track on some of my personal goals. Now, if only I could find a technique that helped me resist Bi-rite icecream...it's time for a spoonful of that frozen goodness :)
