This weekend was all about celebrations...
F & S hosted a great Diwali potluck in the South Bay on Friday night....lots of good food, friends, and friendly banter. A special nod goes to R's idlis. Of the two foods I don't particularly like, idlis are # 1. Yet, R'd idlis were so good, I couldn't resist them...super soft and delicious! I might even consider getting one of those idli batter makers that R got all the way from Bangalore...hmmmm. Also, this was the first time I actually had a positive ROI on poker...yay!
The other celebration was my birthday...the weekend included a great brunch at Ferry Building, soaking in the sun on an unusually warm October weekend, a delicious dinner in the Mission, hot fudge sundaes and cocoa at Ghiradelli Square, midnight cake cutting & butter smearing, deep discussions on life goals, geeky silicon valley centric debates, Scrabble matches, early am calls (people seem to forget that CA is behind everyone else!), masala chais, and a fun trip to Sausalito across a super-foggy, surreal-looking Golden Gate (this is the first time I saw the "heavy fog" warning on the bridge). Occasions like this remind us of how important good conversation and laughter are to maintaining a balanced perspective on life in the world we live in, especially today. Seriously, I can't be grateful enough for amazing friends and family!
Somewhere along the way, I managed to run /walk 4.74 miles on Saturday, which is much more than I typically run at a stretch...was pretty sore as a result of that. Despite that (or is it, because of?) , I signed up today for the San Francisco Half Marathon next July. I'd like to run the full marathon, but sometimes, I suppose it's just best to be realistic....
And unlike previous years, I've finally decided to make a 'birthday' resolution for the year ahead. Wish me luck :)
